 ON SUNDAY THE 28TH AFTER THE VISIT TO VERNON TOWN CEMETERY WE HAD A QIUET STROLL AROUND TOWN, AS BEING SUNDAY NEARLY EVERYTHING WAS SHUT!. AFTER WE WENT BACK TO THE SITE FOR A GAME OF CARDS AND SOME OF US LOST AT BOULES TO NOVICES , AND THEN A BBQ.

TOURELLS cASTLE ON THE VERNONNET SIDE OF THE RIVER SEINE, BUILT IN THE MIDDLE AGES BY PHILLIPE AUGUSTUS. IT WAS BUILT AS A BRIDGE HEAD TO DEFEND THE TOWN OF VERNON, AS IT WAS ON THE BORDERS OF THE CROWN LANDS AND THE DUCHY OF NORMANDY. PARTLY DESTROYED BY BOMBING IN WWII WITH PART BEING RESTORED.

THE TOWER IS THE REMAINS OF THE ANCIENT CASTLE OF VERNON. IT DATES BACK TO THE 12TH CENTURY BUILT IN THE TIME OF PHILIPE AUGUSTUS. THE TOWER WAS ITS DUNGEON AND MUCH LATER WAS USED TO STORE THE CITY ARCHIVES. THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE TO THE LEFT OF THE PICTURE IS JUST A PAINTED TARPAULIN SCREEN.
